Dressage

Available on Horsia

Dressage is judged: a panel scores every movement from 0 to 10 and the final mark is a percentage. Horses start in young horse classes at 4 to 7 years old and, if they have the quality, reach Grand Prix around 9 or 10.

How the levels work

Young horse classes (4, 5, 6 and 7 years) judge the paces, submission and potential more than the exercises. Then come the national levels, the Small Tour (Prix St Georges, Intermediate I) and the Big Tour: Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and the Freestyle to music.

The best dressage studbooks (WBFSH ranking)

The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses ranks studbooks by their horses’ international results. In the final 2025 dressage ranking, the KWPN was first for yet another year, followed by Oldenburg, Hanoverian, Danish Warmblood and Westphalian. The Lusitano finished 7th, the Portuguese Sport Horse 9th and the PRE 12th.

What makes a dressage champion

How Horsia rates it

Horsia analyses the paces and the quality of the work from a video and compares the horse with others of its age and with the horses that reached the top: Olympic Games, World and European Championships and young horse finals. The report tells you its level today, how far it can go and its market value.
